Arbitrum DAO - $2,000

  • Event Prize

Arbitrum is a protocol designed to expedite and reduce the cost of Ethereum transactions. Developers leverage Arbitrum to construct user-friendly decentralized applications (dApps) capable of harnessing the scalability advantages of the Arbitrum Rollup and AnyTrust protocols.

Arbitrum's primary chain, Arbitrum One, was launched in 2021. This was followed swiftly by the introduction of Arbitrum Nova, a distinct AnyTrust chain tailored for ultra low-cost transactions. In August 2022, Arbitrum One underwent an upgrade to the Arbitrum Nitro stack, significantly enhancing its scaling capabilities by 7-10x.

The distribution of $ARB governance tokens plays a pivotal role in decentralizing governance over Arbitrum One and Arbitrum Nova, as well as their underlying protocols. $ARB tokens empower holders to participate in Arbitrum DAO governance proposals, enabling collective influence over the future evolution of Arbitrum protocols and chains. Token holders also have the option to delegate their voting power to delegates.

Arbitrum is recognized as the first Layer 2 scaling solution to achieve Stage 1 Decentralization. For further insights, refer to the Arbitrum Foundation Medium post on progressive decentralization.

Prize Details - $2,000

  • 1st Place: $1,000

  • 2nd Place: $500

  • 3rd Place: $300

Moonshot projects: 2x$100 each

Challenges

This hackathon aims to be inclusive, allowing participation from both technical and non-technical individuals, following the ethos of GovHack.

  1. New protocols/projects built on Arbitrum Orbit (technical)

Description:

  1. New protocols/projects built on Arbitrum Orbit (technical)

  1. Contributor onboarding pathways and/or retention mechanisms (technical or non-technical)

Description: Devise strategies, whether on-chain or off-chain, code-based or not, to onboard contributors/projects to Arbitrum or Arbitrum DAO sustainably. Effective solutions would address issues such as the principal-agent problem and attracting contributors with extractive behavior. Examples include experimental contributor onboarding pathways leveraging web3 tools or gamified approaches.

  1. Open track (technical or non-technical): Anything GOES!

Example projects include mechanisms for public goods allocation, decentralized social platforms, gaming applications, and moonshot ideas addressing web3 challenges or DAO issues. Submission in document/whitepaper format is also accepted.

Submission Essentials:

  • Only projects developed during the hackathon will be accepted.

  • Projects must be open source, with all source code available in a public GitHub repository.

  • Smart contracts must be deployed to Arbitrum One, Arbitrum Nova, or Arbitrum Orbit.

Evaluation Criteria:

  • Technical: Evaluation of code quality, design, and functionality, encompassing both smart contracts and frontend. Projects must have their source code and configurations publicly available on GitHub.

  • Presentation: Assessment of project explanation and presentation, focusing on technical and value-added aspects.

  • Projects must include a demo recording, uploaded to either Dorahacks or YouTube, with the video length not exceeding 5 minutes.
