Inequalities between countries, responsibility and vulnerability to climate change
Human activities have emitted 2.5 trillion tonnes of carbon dioxide (CO2) since the industrial era.
Inequalities between territories are extreme: the United States alone has accounted for 25% of territorial emissions since 1751. Next are European countries (22%), China (12,7%) and Russia (6.%).
Countries that have contributed the least to increasing greenhouse gases in the atmosphere are often the most vulnerable to climate risks. This is particularly the case for countries among the poorest such as Bangladesh, Haiti, Sudan, Nigeria, Cambodia, the Philippines or Ethiopia.
