Background

Federal regulations refer to the rules and administrative codes issued by federal agencies, boards, or commissions. These regulations are tools through which Congress enforces public policy objectives, having tasked agencies with creating rules, guidelines, and procedures to carry out laws passed by Congress. Federal regulations can cover a vast range of subjects, including banking, transportation, health and safety, consumer rights, environmental protection, and many others.

The manner in which federal regulations are created, updated, and enforced can be a reflection of government efficiency. Voters may have opinions on whether the regulatory process is streamlined and responsive to changing needs. Voters may evaluate regulations with regards to how well they address an essential need without being unreasonably excessive and invasive.
