“Expanding the CAM program to create more legal pathways for people to apply to come to the U.S. is smart policy and a critical step in the right direction. It will allow children who would have previously been forced to walk thousands of miles to access protection at the border, to apply from closer to their homes. We must strengthen and improve our asylum system at the border, including ending the use of Title 42, but expanding legal immigration pathways is a vital component of the Administration’s effort to build a working, humane approach to regional migration and asylum. We encourage the Administration to swiftly implement the application process for this program and ensure that the potentially 100,000 plus people who are now eligible can reunify with family and access vital humanitarian protections as quickly as possible.”
