Bureau of Industry and Security

The Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS), part of the U.S. Department of Commerce, focuses on national security and high-tech issues. Its key aim is to prevent the spread of weapons of mass destruction while promoting U.S. exports. Led by the Under Secretary of Commerce for Industry and Security, BIS works to enhance U.S. national security, foreign policy, and economic interests. It regulates the export of sensitive goods and technologies, enforces export controls and laws, supports global export control cooperation, helps U.S. industries comply with arms control agreements, assesses the U.S. defense industrial base's health, and fosters initiatives to safeguard critical national infrastructures.
