LGBTQIA+ Rights
Background
LGBTQIA+ rights pertain to the rights and protections of individuals who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersex, asexual and other non-heteronormative sexual orientations and gender identities. Over time, advocacy efforts have sought to address discrimination, violence, and systemic inequalities faced by the LGBTQIA+ community in areas such as employment, housing, marriage, military service, healthcare, and education. Recognition and protection of LGBTQIA+ rights impact how inclusive, tolerant, and accepting society is towards diverse identities.
Voters may assess policies with regards to stances on LGBTQIA+ rights and related issues, proposals that might either expand or restrict rights and protections for the LGBTQIA+ community, the role of religious, cultural, or personal beliefs, and measures that address the specific challenges faced by LGBTQIA+ individuals.
