Coal has been a major source of energy since the Industrial Revolution. It is still one of the most important non-renewable energy sources in the world, and its use has even increased in recent years. China, India, Indonesia, the United States, and Australia are the leading coal-producing countries. The largest coal mining company in the world is Coal India Limited. China Shenhua Energy is another major coal mining company. China and India are the biggest consumers of coal. More than half of China's energy consumption is from coal. Coal consumption in the United States has decreased in recent years, but some projections predict that it will increase again by 2030.
