  • Event

Announcements

  • Erik has agreed to co-lead this Dao with Yan

  • Program Creation- Yan

  • Knowledge Hub- Erik

  • Paul getting all the WD orgs onto Geo in the CA space, and a lot have been inputted

Goals

  • Find contacts in these organizations

  • Schedule meetings to connect with them

  • For example, invite Ken Nim of the SF WD Office to come to We <3 SF and then join a Workforce Development Dao meeting

  • We need to excite experts into joining our meetings

  • Resources that are needed are actually being met, so find the missing need

  • Develop mission statement, and we have started this

  • Refer people to organizations

What value do we bring?

  • So far we explored career coaching, and bringing in candidates

  • We will have candidates coming in through the other Daos: Street Outreach, Recovery, and Transitional Housing

  • Starting off, only 5% of unhoused people are workforce ready so we maintain a steady flow of well-vetted, ready-for-work candidates

  • Employers will need people who are vetted, Workforce Development organizations, might not need this

  • Potential value add is connecting orgs together and fostering partnerships

  • Readying employers to take on people who have come out of hard situations

  • We are feeding the service providers

Employer Training

Many employers don’t know how to manage this population and this is a huge problem. Employees who are more sensitive, have behavioral challenges like anger management, impulsive decision making, trouble with focus/ time management, hyper vigilance, etc. enter the workplace and if their bosses aren’t patient, kind, and know how to guide them, the employee might not last long in their role. This is an area where the workplace can be supported.

Range

  • There is currently a wide range of, what WD orgs do.

  • For example: Code Tenderloin hosts 1-time coding workshops, other orgs can help people build a beautiful resumes, and some work with a person on every step of their employment journey

  • Some organizations help train unofficial counselors or case managers

  • Love Never Fails has a Workforce Development arm to offer: education in law and government, healthcare, corporate and more.

Find out what do these organizations need

  • Right now we are learning what our niche is

  • Do they need assistance vetting candidates?

  • We can invite orgs to come, share, and connect with other orgs

  • We could create a candidate database from clients of the other Daos

Candidate Database

  • Extract features from each WD organization

  • Intake profile: built so that we can match people to workplaces, almost like a search engine

  • Have all of the behavior/learning challenges listed

  • Mobility challenges, autism, down syndrome, anger management, hyper-vigilance etc.

  • Get expressed permission from candidate before sharing any of their private mental health symptoms

Benefits

  • Organization’s benefit is a path for better placement of new employees

  • Also, give them space on Geo to share what they specialize in

  • Upwardly Global: has a lot of services

  • Add categories in tags or tabs

  • Currently we have names of orgs

  • Need employment specialties, target market, success rate, etc.

  • Similar to the roles and skill types, we want a table with organizations and their highlights.

New tasks

  • Erik will meet with Arturas to create types and tags table in Geo

  • We need someone to connect with these orgs and invite them to flush out their organization’s page

  • Each person in the Dao picks 3 orgs already in Geo, and researches them, so they can add tags for each one, into the table that’s created

  • Erik can schedule a time for us to work on these tasks together

  • Long-term next step: Build a net of grace for populations with higher needs

  • What does it look like? A training program for employers

  • Add it to the road map, and add it to geo in relation to employers

  • This would be good content that we can look into creating

Possible flow for referral

1. Street Outreach- intake form and profile created.

2. Participant can be referred to the Recovery and or Mentorship Dao’s services.

3. If they meet the criteria for further stabilization and communal living, refer them into. Transitional Housing depending on available tiny homes.

4. Once they are in our transitional housing program, map out their Workforce Development goals and start supporting them with groups, trainings, and one on one assistance.

5. It would be good to stay in contact with a participant at least a year after they move into their permanent housing and have gotten hired at their new job. Maintaining employment can also be a hurdle, so support would be beneficial.

Referrals

Either we need someone to follow a person on their journey from Street Outreach onward

or

We have the website be clear enough for people to read and understand what their next step is.

  • Example: SO worker meets a person on the street and helps them a profile

  • An independent SO worker gets permission to have admin rights to the profile. Then they can be referred

  • Another approach: refer me to YWAM, by walking we directly there

  • Zae’s project does this and will be launching on the January 28th

  • He is wondering if he can use a QR code to help people track their goals

  • Hoping to print QR code for each person’s profile at YWAM in the Tenderloin, if possible

  • POAPs can be used for financial incentive for people to accomplish their different goals: Recovery, housing, mental health, dental, family reunification, etc.

  • A set of POAPs can be created, catered to each individual

Readiness

What are the qualifications/prerequisites for us to recommend a person for employment?

  • We should automate the process

  • They are not currently chronically homeless, but transitional housing or housed

  • Proper hygiene

  • Professional resume

  • Have a phone and email address

  • We know which language they are proficient in

  • List Degrees/training certificates

  • Graduated from a recovery program

  • Stabilized from Mental Health challenges

  • After these are checked out: you get tagged as workforce ready

  • We are pre-qualifying people who are ready by our standards

  • Currently its mainly on the service provider to know that a person is ready to go into employment. We can support them.

  • Help employers be better prepared to take people in this population, in.

Do we want to switch the meeting from 145 to 2pm start time? Yes
