  • Article

The documentary "The Savior for Sale" claims that Saudi crown prince Mohammed bin Salman bought the painting, Salvator Mundi, in 2017 after being assured by experts that it was a genuine work by Leonardo da Vinci.

However, the documentary alleges that the painting is actually a fake, and that the crown prince was aware of this fact before he bought it.

The documentary also claims that the crown prince pressured the Louvre to authenticate the painting in order to save face.

The Louvre had initially refused to authenticate the painting, but it reversed its decision after the crown prince threatened to withdraw funding for the museum.

The documentary's director, Antoine Vitkine, said that he had interviewed several people who had firsthand knowledge of the events surrounding the purchase of the painting.

He said that the documentary's findings were "shocking" and that they "raise serious questions about the integrity of the Louvre."
