Description

Ningyō Kuyō is a special Doll Memorial Service held at Hōkyō-ji, also known as "the Doll Temple" in Kyoto, Japan. This ceremony honors the spirits of dolls that are no longer needed or have become weathered, providing a respectful send-off rather than discarding them as trash. The event occurs annually on October 14th, starting at 10:30 am, where attendees can partake in a Buddhist service alongside traditional Japanese rituals, offering prayers and incense before a Doll Burial Mound where the ashes of previous years' dolls are interred​​.
