Miriam Makeba
In 1960, the South African government revoked Miriam Makeba citizenship, forcing her to live in exile for the next 30 years. During this time, Miriam Makeba continued to use her music to raise awareness of the injustices of apartheid. Makeba returned to South Africa in 1990, following the release of Nelson Mandela from prison. She continued to be active as a musician and activist until her death in 2008.
