The lyrics of the song are inspired by the Battle of Culloden, which took place in the year 1746, between Scots and English, the last battle to occur on British soil. The title of the song refers to a battle cry used in that conflict. The lyrics were composed by Luca Prodan, the band's leader, who became aware of the battle during his student years in Scotland, at Gordonstoun School.
