Statement

The lyrics were composed by Luca Prodan, he described his particular and emotional vision of a typical area located between the Balvanera and Almagro neighborhoods of Buenos Aires, el Abasto, which is famous for having been the neighborhood where Carlos Gardel lived all his childhood. At the end of the 1980s, the Mercado de Abasto was semi-abandoned after having been an important commercial point of the city. The tiresome rhythm of the song and the expressions of the lyrics reflect the atmosphere of poverty and helplessness that anyone could feel when touring the area at that time. The song is characterized by being monochordic, that is, it was only composed with a single chord without a defined progression, E Major, using the corresponding scale in its E Major melody.
