Shane Harris has over twenty years of experience writing about intelligence, security, and foreign policy. He currently serves as a staff writer at The Washington Post, focusing on U.S. intelligence agencies and national security issues. His notable achievements include being part of The Washington Post team that won the 2021 Pulitzer Prize for Public Service for reporting on the Jan. 6 Capitol attack and the attempt to overturn the presidential election. Additionally, in 2019, he contributed to the coverage of Jamal Khashoggi's murder, which was a finalist for the same award. Before joining The Washington Post, Shane worked as a staff writer for The Wall Street Journal, The Daily Beast, and National Journal. He has authored two books: "The Watchers: The Rise of America's Surveillance State" published in 2010 and "@War: The Rise of the Military-Internet Complex" released in 2014. Shane is also known for his appearances on national and international TV and radio and co-hosts the weekly podcast "Chatter." A 1998 graduate of Wake Forest University, he resides in Washington, D.C. His other honors include the George Polk Award in 2021, the Helen Bernstein Book Award in 2011, and the Gerald R. Ford Prize for Distinguished Reporting on National Defense in 2010. Besides English, he speaks Spanish.
