The Rapid Support Forces (RSF) are a paramilitary force in Sudan, originally formed in 2013 from the Janjaweed militia, known for their role in the Darfur conflict. They were officially integrated into the Sudanese government's security apparatus and have since become a significant and controversial force in Sudan's political and security landscape. Commanded by Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, also known as Hemeti, the RSF has been involved in various internal and external operations, including border security and counter-insurgency efforts. However, the force has been widely criticized for human rights abuses, including allegations of war crimes in Darfur, as well as their violent suppression of protests and civilian opposition, particularly during the 2019 Sudanese revolution and its aftermath. Their growing political influence, especially after the ousting of President Omar al-Bashir, has raised concerns about their role in Sudan's future political stability and governance.
