1950s - Early Years of the Armistice

Following the 1948 Arab-Israeli War, Lebanon, having played a minor role, signed an armistice with Israel in 1949, leading to a period of relative calm and limited, symbolic skirmishes. During this time, Lebanon, with its large Christian minority and Westernized society, focused more on internal stability. This era, while relatively peaceful at the border, harboured undercurrents of tension and unresolved issues that would later contribute to Lebanon's deeper involvement in the Arab-Israeli conflict​.
