Synopsis

Rebeca (Victoria Abril) is a famous Spanish singer who lives in Madrid. Her mother, Becky (Marisa Paredes), used to be a popular Spanish actress and singer herself but left her family to pursue her career when Rebeca was a child. The two women have been estranged for years. The film begins when Rebeca's mother, Becky, returns to Spain after a long absence. She has been living in Mexico and has become a successful television news anchor. Her return surprises Rebeca and her lover, Manuel (Feodor Atkine). As the story unfolds, it becomes apparent that there is unresolved tension between Rebeca and Becky due to Becky's abandonment of her daughter. Additionally, both women have secrets: Becky is involved in a tumultuous romantic relationship with Manuel, and Rebeca is keeping a significant secret of her own. The central conflict of the film revolves around the complex mother-daughter relationship, Rebeca's jealousy of her mother's success, and the triangle of love between Rebeca, Becky, and Manuel. The melodrama is interwoven with elements of humor, music, and the extravagant world of Spanish entertainment. As the story progresses, the characters confront their past, come to terms with their emotions, and ultimately face the consequences of their actions and decisions. The film explores themes of forgiveness, reconciliation, and the enduring bonds between mothers and daughters.
