Jainism

Description

Ancient Indian religion known for its principles of nonviolence and asceticism. It was founded in the 6th century BCE in the same cultural milieu that produced Buddhism, but its origins are believed to be older. Jainism has its roots in the teachings of the tirthankaras, or spiritual teachers, the most notable of whom was Mahavira, also known as Vardhamana, who is considered the founder of present-day Jainism.
