National Bureau of Economic Research
The National Bureau of Economic Research (NBER) is a private, nonprofit American research organization dedicated to conducting and sharing impartial economic research with public policymakers, business professionals, and the academic community. It is recognized for determining the start and end dates of recessions in the United States. The NBER has ties to many former chairpersons of the Council of Economic Advisers, notable among them being former NBER president and Harvard Professor Martin Feldstein. Currently, James M. Poterba of MIT serves as the NBER's president and CEO.
